Agatha Mary Carroll died at Beckley Farm Lodge in Victoria on November 27 2025, following a 10 year battle with dementia.
She was born in Dublin, Ireland, on May 24, 1944 to Leo and Ann Bermingham. She emigrated to Canada in 1971 with her husband Derek. She leaves behind Derek, her three sons (Simon, Eoin and David) their wives (Renee, Joan and Frances), and in addition, her five granddaughters (Aoife, Adah, Zoe, Hailey and Madeline). When she first arrived in Canada, she lived in Hamilton, then London, Haida Gwai and finally in Victoria for 50 years.
Agatha had a great love for literature, music, people and poetry. She welcomed many into her home as semi-permanent guests (you know who you are!), going above and beyond in extending Irish hospitality to all who ventured across her threshold. A full house and many a party brought Agatha much storytelling and hilarity, as she revelled in the adventures and misadventures of her three sons and their many friends.
She completed courses in Women’s studies at Western University in London, Ontario and finally completed a degree in Creative Writing at the University of Victoria. She shall be missed by multiple friends and relatives here in Canada, as well as in Ireland.
