Aira Jaqueline 'Shirley' Welwood

In the evening of August 12, 2017, with her children by her side, Aira Welwood (Shirley Scopick) quietly passed away. Aira was born and raised in Wakaw, Saskatchewan and after graduating from University moved to Haida Gwaii with her husband Dwight Welwood. She taught school in Masset and began raising her three children. Later she moved to Victoria where she began working in the natural health field. She studied and became an Herbalist and was a firm believer that nature provides everything we need for a healthy life. Aira worked extensively as a counsellor and art therapist, she was the administrator of the BC School of Art Therapy for 10 years. In her retirement she devoted her time to her children and grandchildren who became the greatest work of her life. She was an artist and loved expressing her talent throughout her life. Aira was kind, caring, loving and generous dedicating her life to helping others heal themselves and finding their way through life's difficulties.
She is survived by her children Chela (Mike), Shaylin (Jason) and Jonah (Jamara), her grandchildren (Logan, Brody , Mikayla , Cassia , Jakoah ) and her siblings Jim, Margaret and Ken.
The family would like to thank Victoria Hospice and Father Ian Stuart for their care, support and kindness.
