Alva Elsie Zahar

d. May 6, 2021

"Alva Elsie Zahar, (maiden name Bailey) July 4th,1935- May 6th, 2021 was a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, GG, sister, aunt, and friend. She was compassionate, strong, supportive , and we all loved her. There are too many chapters and losses in her life to recount them all. However, those of us who were close would agree that the death of her third son, Timothy Mike Zahar who passed away from cancer in 2016 at the age of 55, took life's light from Mom's eyes. She truly never recovered. Mom kept herself busy with daily activities, interacted with one of us on the telephone or in person. She shared stories, memories, and spoke about current news events. Mom made friends around the senior complex where she resided in Port McNeill, (located on northern Vancouver Island)since 2019. She moved to this small community to be closer to one of her daughter's. Besides family and friends Mom always loved her flowers. All types, colours, and aromas. From illicium's, lobelia's, carnation's, petunias, the list is endless. Her face would be one big smile when she planted, handled, and cared for flowers. Planting season was approaching and she already had many flowers waiting for May long week-end to begin potting. Grievously, during the dinner hour on May 5th, 2021 Mom suffered a violent stroke that put her into a coma, where she remained for 25 hours before passing over on May 6th, at 7:20P.M., in Port McNeill's hospital. Her two daughters were by her side during her passing. Alva Elsie Zahar was 85 years of age. She is just out of our sight but will remain in our hearts. Love you Mom, Mom-in-law, grandma, gg, sister, aunt, and friend."
