Our lovely mother Rena left us on Sunday morning, July 16, 2017, after many years coping the best she could with Lewy Body Dementia. She passed away comfortably and at peace in her room at Luther Court. Rena was predeceased by her beloved husband William in 2013. She is survived by her three daughters, Jacqueline (Mike) Brewis, Anne (Wray) Turcotte, Zoe (Dave) Shields, six grandchildren Kyle (Dana), Jane (Scott), Colin, Jillian, Wesley and Harlan, two great grandsons, Owen and Evan who she adored, and her family in Scotland, Joyce, Ian, George and Gillian (Alan). Bill, Rena and daughter Jacqueline immigrated from Scotland in 1957 to start a new life in Victoria. Rena's first job was at the Empress Hotel as an elevator operator, and her final long time position was with Eaton's shoe department.
Rena was a beautiful lady inside and out. She had a special glow and a smile for all. The family was everything to her and she loved the many gatherings with them. She made the best roast beef dinners, scotch shortbread, and blackberry pies. The years living in Cordova Bay were especially fun for Rena and her family with spending days at the beach and dancing at McMorran's with Bill. After moving away from Cordova Bay, summers were spent at Saratoga Beach, which were some of her most memorable times. Rena and Bill's years living in Sidney were very special for them; enjoying the friendships with all their neighbours. It was here that Rena took much pleasure in creating a beautiful garden.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Luther Court for the care and compassion given to Rena from the day she settled in until the day she left us - they are truly special people. If you would like to make a donation in Rena's memory, you can do so to the Luther Court Society, 1525 Cedar Hill Cross Road, Victoria, BC V8P 5M1.
If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, place them in my mother's arms, and tell her they're from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it everyday, but there's an ache within my heart that will never go away.
