Andy Reid passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital, with his family by his side. Born in Glasgow Scotland, Andy moved with his family to West Vancouver when he was 9 years old. As a young man, he met and married Chris (Christian) Law of Gabriola Island. Together they raised a family in North Vancouver and later in Victoria. Andy worked as a Store Manager for most of his career, selling furniture and appliances. He was active in the School Board, Kinsmen, and Scouting in North Vancouver for a number of years. After their move to Victoria, Andy was also involved in community groups in Victoria, including the Saanich Volunteers, and the Cedar Hill New Horizons. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years Chris, and by his eldest son Alistair. He is survived by his son Hank Reid (Linda), his daughter Ruby Chapman (Ross) and by his daughter -in -law Diane Reid, and their children Stephen (Heather), Jon (Shelagh), David, Michael, Joanne and Brian, as well as 4 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and a large extended family. The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Gary Nielsen for his extraordinary care of Andy over the years, and also our appreciation to the staff at the Kensington. He valued the friendships that he made there over the years with both residents and staff. Andy was much loved and an inspiration to family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of family, his many acts of kindness, his sense of humor, and his pursuit of life-long learning. Gabriola Island has always held a special place in Andys heart. It is where he first met his wife Chris, where they brought their children each summer for holidays, and where they built a cottage that they enjoyed with their family into their retirement. In accordance with his wishes, there will be a celebration of his life at the Gabriola Cemetery in the summer. He requested no flowers, but rather asked that anyone wishing to do so could donate to the charity of their choice.
