Andrew Van Drunen

January 28, 1950 — April 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Andrew Van Drunen who went to be with Jesus on Sunday April 16, 2023 at the age of 73. Born in Holland, he was the son of the late Willemina and Huibert Van Drunen. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Catherine Van Drunen.

He is survived by his children Bonnie (Brad), Julie, Adrian (Stacey), Cory (Becky), and Sarah (Ryan). Grandchildren Ashley, Kristi, Kaitlin, Jesse, Noah, Caprica, Macgyver, Isla, Nora, Elijah, and Everly. Great Grandchildren, Syrinity, Bee, Cooper, and Easton.

Siblings Henry (Lykke), Nell (Jim), Adriana, and Harry (Laura). Brothers-in-law Doug (Marjorie), John (Penny) and sister-in-law Marjorie (Terry) and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew was a man of God whose faith in Jesus carried him throughout his life.

He spent his time in Ontario, Central Alberta, and Calgary, but ultimately home for Andrew was wherever Cathy was and their love of the being near the water led them to Victoria where they spent the last decade sharing Tim’s coffees on the beach together.

Andrew deeply loved his family and enjoyed every moment he spent visiting his children and grandchildren across Canada. He took special care of the hummingbirds who were regular visitors to their place. Andrew was the special kind of father, grandpa and opa who always helped you fix anything. He loved to share his knowledge and passions, whether it was coaching skiing, basketball, baseball, or golfing or teaching his grown kids more than they ever wanted to know about fixing cars that had probably passed their expiry date, Dad/Grandpa was always there to help, with tools in hand.

Andrew worked very hard throughout his life to provide for his family, something we will always be grateful for. We would like to especially acknowledge Jenner Chevrolet where he enjoyed spending the last decade as a car salesman.

A special thank you to the Cancer Care and Palliative Care Team at the Royal Jubilee hospital for their kindness and compassion during Andrew’s final days.
