Anne Binder, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and a woman of remarkable energy and resilience, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026 just shy of turning 86.

Born near Athabasca AB to immigrant farmers from the Ukraine, Anne lived a full and colourful life leading her to settle in Victoria BC. Her life filled with creativity, adventure, hard work, and an enduring love for the people and animals around her. Throughout her life she pursued many different interests and careers, always willing to learn something new and take on the next challenge. She ultimately found her way into the kitchen, where she worked as a chef and brought together two things she loved deeply: food and creativity.

Anne was energetic, creative, and resilient. She faced more than her share of challenges and health difficulties, but she possessed a remarkable strength to overcome adversity and keep moving forward. She had a deep sensitivity to the world around her, allowing her to find wonder in everyday things and to appreciate life in all its complexity. With determination, humour, and a generous spirit, Anne faced whatever life brought her and continued to find joy, beauty, and meaning along the way.

She loved gardening, cooking and food, animals, and travelling the world. Her travels to Australia, Ghana, Switzerland and many other places in her younger years brought her many adventures and stories, and she carried that curiosity and enthusiasm for life with her throughout the years.

Those who knew Anne will remember her extraordinary sense of humour and her big heart. Anne also had a strong presence and a way of making an impression wherever she went. Beneath her independent spirit was a generous nature and a willingness to help anyone in need.

Anne will be deeply missed by her son, Rubin; daughter-in-law, Judi; her grandchildren, Ella and Caelan; dear friend Manuela and many others. She leaves behind not only memories of a life richly lived, but also the warmth, laughter, kindness, and resilience that she shared with those around her.

A Celebration of Anne’s Life will be held at the Royal Oak Burial Park Chapel on September 1, 2026 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to a charity of your choice in Anne’s memory. Thank you to the staff at Hummingbird House at The Summit for great care where she lived the past few years.
