Anthony Grant Bolton

August 20, 1948 — January 23, 2024

Anthony Grant Bolton, 75, of Victoria BC, passed away on January 23rd, 2024, after a battle with cancer.

Grant was born on August 20th, 1948, to Clarice and Bernard Joseph Bolton in Bienfait Saskatchewan. Later, the family moved to Cobble Hill B.C. where Grant graduated first, from Cowichan High School, and later from the University of Victoria, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

As a skilled photographer, Grant worked alongside his life-long friend, Ken, and throughout his life took thousands of professional and personal photos which will be treasured by his loved ones for years to come.

Later, Grant began working at The Blanshard Community Centre, (now Quadra Village Community Centre), where he was a leader in building and maintaining community programming and support services. Grant was especially skilled at creating new programs and advocating for the funding to support them. His work with youth in the community led him to fundraising for yearly trips to Disneyland. Over the years, he oversaw more than 20 trips, and countless teens on the Community Centre work crew had the opportunity to travel. Over the course of his career, Grant took on many roles in his community including the director of WorkStreams and the President of the Victoria Kiwanis Club.

Grant was a goofy, fun loving, kid at heart, who embraced all those he met with openness and understanding. He was a talented writer, poet, and visual artist. Grant loved to play cribbage and go on long road trips. He created community wherever he went, and nothing was more important to him than community and family.

Grant is predeceased by his parents, BJ and Clarice Bolton (née Kvamme), as well as his older brothers Clancy and Fred.

Grant leaves behind countless friends and family. His brothers Rick and Robin, his sisters Delia, Wendy and Sheila, to name a few, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. For Grant’s daughter Danielle, no words can describe the loss of her dear dad, who was both her friend and confidante.

Grant met many people who became his chosen family, including Terri, Deirdre, and Jen. A special mention goes out to Vernon and the rest of the Scott family, for being wonderful, devoted cousins. We would also like to extend thanks to Grant’s brothers in-law Nick, Charlie, and Richard, as well as cousin Gerry.

Finally, the family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff in the palliative care unit at the Jubilee Hospital, for making Grant’s final days as comfortable as possible.

There will be no funeral services for Grant at this time, as he enjoyed a Celebration of Life a few months ago surrounded by family and friends.
