Arthur Edward Moody

March 13, 1923 — September 27, 2021

Following a brief illness, Arthur passed away peacefully at the ripe old age of 98. A lifelong lover of cricket and photography, Arthur was impish, irreverent, and rabble-rousing until the very end. Predeceased by his beloved wife Rosa, he is survived by his children, Steve (Michelle) and Maxine, grandsons Ryan and Connor and numerous relatives in the UK and the US.

Arthur was born in North London, UK, the youngest of four, and settled in Victoria with his young family in 1967. He served as an Electrical ‘Artificer’ [Technician] and Petty Officer in the British Royal Navy from 1942-46 before beginning his working career with Standard Telephone in the UK.

In Canada, Arthur enjoyed a lengthy career within scientific environments in which he used his skills in the design, development and manufacture of scientific instruments and equipment.

He first travelled to Canada in 1954 where he worked as a Development Mechanic for the Missile Division of De Havilland Aircraft in Toronto. He went on to work in the Physics Departments of the University of Toronto and Waterloo as an Instrument Maker and Research Development Technician.

Arthur concluded a successful career with the Department of Fisheries & Oceans at the Pat Bay Institute of Ocean Sciences. There he is remembered for his key contributions to the development of a zooplankton counter which was used to carry out research in the Arctic Circle.

Our deepest gratitude to VIHA, Hospice and MAiD for their support with both of our parents over the years, and to Nora, for her care of Dad in his home.
