Barbara Louise Hubbard

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we experienced a tremendous loss to our close knit family on June 9, 2015. Barbara Hubbard (nee Hanes) passed away early that sunny June morning, so amazingly loved by so many, and with sunshine dancing in her brown curly hair. Barb was our beautiful, loving, energetic, and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother to her family members. She was a friend and colleague to the many people with whom she worked at the University of Victoria, those with whom she worshipped at St. Michael and All Angels' Anglican Church, and many other friends she made over the years.
Barb was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and raised, just across the border, in Creighton, Saskatchewan. She will be missed greatly by her husband Lanny; children Christopher and Jocelyn (Jeff) Nielsen; brother Garry (Gaye) Hanes; sister Shelley (Bob) Redekopp; grandchildren Kaelyn, Marlowe, and Hendrik; and her nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
Amongst her many talents, Barb was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. She made many of her own clothes and clothes for her children and grandchildren. During travels to various places over the years, stops at fabric stores were always required as part of the itinerary.
Barb went very peacefully, with no pain, with Lanny by her side. Many people sent text messages, called, and travelled from all over the country to say their goodbyes and it was very moving to witness how many people loved her.
Barb has always received excellent medical care from her doctors and the family is especially appreciative of the efforts of Dr. W. Ross McKay and Dr. James Piercy over the past few weeks when Barb's illness manifested in a way that despite the best efforts of her very competent medical team and doctors, it could not be defeated. The family is also very appreciative for the care provided in Hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital during Barb's last days. The care and compassion of the staff and volunteers was simply outstanding.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Barb's life will be held at St. Michael and All Angels' Church, 4733 West Saanich Road, Victoria on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Victoria Hospice.
