Barbara Lois Roos

d. September 21, 2017

We're so thankful to have been with our beautiful mother Barbara, over a lifetime and during her final years and days. Barbara was a person who touched the lives of many with her nurturing love, genuine smile and generosity.
Barb was born in Penticton, B.C. At 8 years old, sailed on the SS Prince Rupert with her parents and little sister Jacqueline to the Port City of Prince Rupert. In her North Coast home, Barbara raised a large family, and worked at the Prince Rupert Fishermen's Cooperative Assn, first in the Fillet room and then as the Industrial First Aid Attendant.
Barbara retired to Gibsons, B.C. for 10 years, and then with health changes, chose to live with family in North Saanich. In both communities, she made dear friends, often connecting through her love of swimming and her strong faith. We are thankful that her lifelong friend, Margaret Giske, was at her side during her final days.
Predeceased by her parents, sister Jacqueline, husband Derry, and son-in-law Alexander Nicol, Barbara will be missed by her children: Michael, Deborah (JC), Mark, Mitchell, Shannon (Mark J), and Cheryl (Chad); Grandchildren: Julia, Marlow, Anna, Jake, Charlotte, Katerina, Maeve, and Great-Grandchildren: Fatou and Awa Kone, as well as the many extended family and friends.
Thanks go out to the people and organizations that provided health care services to mom: RN's Coreen, Karen and Heather, that allowed mom to be in the comfort of her own home for as long as possible; Beacon HCA's, her G.P. Dr. Wetzer, Saanich Peninsula Palliative Care unit for the respite care provided, the BC Cancer Agency, and to Dr. Tanja Berrang from whom mom felt great comfort. Thanks also to the Palliative Care Teams and Victoria Hospice Team who made all the difference in fulfilling mom's end of life wishes and supporting the entire family.
Special mention to neighbors Maggie and Steve who enriched mom's life with outings to Butchart Gardens and fabulous "over the fence" visits as well, as the knowledge they were there for us at any time.
Friends and family are invited to join us Saturday September 30th at 1:00pm at Saint Elizabeth's Church, 10030 Third St. Sidney, B.C. for a Memorial Mass. Reception to follow in Parish. Tributes and memories can be shared by visiting www.earthsoption.com In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara's name to Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, or Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
