Betty Josephine Criswick
March 1, 1928 - January 11, 2019
Betty died peacefully as a result of a stroke January 11, 2019.
Her memory will be cherished by her children Paddy Logan (Ian), Wendy Pritchard (Dean), and John Criswick; grandchildren Tessa Kubicek (Alan), Brioney Logan Kilpatrick (Daniel), Courtenay Barr (Eric), Rosemarie Robertson (Ben), Dane Pritchard, Zachary Pritchard, and Demaris Pritchard; and great-grandchildren Declan, Devin, Alexander, Logan, and Penelope. She was predeceased by her husband V. Guy Criswick, brother Bill Ivison, infant son Graham Scott Criswick, and infant grandson Fitzgerald Ainslie Criswick.
Betty was born to Eric and Bessie Ivison in Saskatoon, SK.  As a child, she and her brother were a well-known song and dance duo who entertained international troops stationed in Canada during the Second World War, and also performed professionally across the Prairies. Her musical roots followed her through life, as she studied voice and piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music, and shared her love of music with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, often playing at family gatherings.
She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Home Economics, pursuing a career as a dietitian in the United States and Canada. She then trained as a teacher, and taught high school in Trail, BC and later through BC's correspondence education branch.
In 1955, she married Guy Criswick, and continued to work while raising their children and supporting Guy as he studied to become an ophthalmologist. The family relocated to Boston, MA for two years where Guy pursued his specialty in diseases of the retina, eventually settling in Victoria, BC.
Betty considered herself to be a "secular humanitarian" and was a life-long learner, attending the University of Victoria in her 50's, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in history.
After Guy's death, Betty retired to Cadboro Bay, Victoria, where she was recognized by many students, residents, and local businesses for her cheerful outgoing nature and willingness to engage and share her wit and wisdom. She was active and happy right to the end.
She will always be remembered by her family for her independence, intelligence, and selfless desire to put others' needs before her own.
There will be a private gathering to celebrate Betty's life.
