She was the second youngest child of 11. We are not sure on how she got her endearing nickname Babe but no doubt it was because she was cute. Her early years were spent in Edmonton until 1929 when her family moved to the Peace River area. At the young age of 13, Babe began working for her neighbor. One year when she traveled to Clyde to visit her sister Edith, she was offered a job on the Genest farm. It was here that she fell in love with their son Arthur and the two were married on October 10, 1938. They bought the farm from Arthurs parents. This new home was the place where they raised their 6 children until 1956 when they relocated to Edmonton. Once in Edmonton, Babe began working at various jobs outside the home. Her passion and talent in cooking opened the door to several different careers, spanning from a coffee shop in Woodcroft, to Woodwards, then the Glenrose Hospital. She even had her own catering business on the side. In 1972, they packed up their Oldsmobile 98 with only their clothes and youngest daughter and headed for the West Coast, it was here that they built their dream home in Victoria. During this construction, Babe started working at Woodwards. For 2 years they lived in the Royal Oak Motel until their home was completed. During this time, the Royal Oak Inn was being built. This was where she met the owners who then offered her a job as a cook. As the years passed, Babe and Art moved into the Savoy in downtown Victoria. Unable to sit back and enjoy retirement she took on her last job as a cook at Rose Manor seniors home until she retired in 1990. Victoria was where she stayed until 2010. It was then that a serious fall and failing health moved Babe into a care home in Parksville, remaining there until March 6, 2014. Babe loved her family and always enjoyed preparing lovely meals for them and hosted numerous family gatherings. The sound of laughter and the reminiscing of memories continually brought a smile to her face. She spoke tenderly about her wonderful parents and siblings and all the fun they had together even through the Great Depression. Babe was very selfless and was always there to help others without thinking of herself. She was a thoughtful, upbeat, gentle, hardworking woman who never regretted any of her time spent caring for others. She was a loving mother and nana who was willing to help however she could, and was generous to a fault. If anyone stopped to visit, it was guaranteed that she would prepare a meal or at the very least tasty treats to share. Babe was also very stylish. Family friends often commented on her appearance and told us your mother looks like Royalty. No matter what time of day you showed up at her home She was dressed to the 9s and ready to go. Her lifelong saying was If you have your health you have everything. So Good Health is her wish for all
