Bill Cowell

Bill was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan to Della and Wilfred Cowell on August 8, 1940. He attended Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Calgary. On June 15, 1961 he married Norma Jean Muir, in May of 1963 his daughter Gayleen was born and in August of 1966 his son Brent was born. Bill worked for Alberta Parks as a Parks Planner. In 1974 the family moved to Victoria where he worked as a consultant for various companies. Over the years he began driving bus, first as a tour bus driver and later as a school bus driver for School District 63. Bill used his leadership training in many youth organizations including youth choirs in Calgary and in Victoria. He extended his training to include teaching English as a second language to many Japanese and Korean students as well as having an opportunity to teach English in Korea with Norma. In October of 2004, Bill and Norma got to go on a whirlwind tour of Japan to meet with the many of the people in Japan whom Bill and Norma had hosted here. Throughout his life, Bill had a knack for fixing, building and repairing anything. From constructing rooms in the basement of a house to fixing old cars to creating stages and sets for church functions, he tackled them all. He never shied away from a challenge and would put his whole heart into helping people. His greatest joy was his family; children Gayleen (Paul), Brent (Penny), grandchildren Matthew, Tiffany (Kyle M), Kyle C (Jessica), and great-grandchildren Jayde, Myka and Danielle. Bill was always willing to listen to and comfort people in need and he will always be remember for his warmth, his smile, his laughter, his kindness and his love of Christ.
