COOKE, Brenda
1930 - 2025
Brenda passed away peacefully in her sleep in the company of love and care. Brenda will be remembered for her kindness, love, teaching, a wide variety of arts and craft talents, luck winning contests, keeping in touch with lifelong friends and family, and much more.
Born in England, Brenda was the first of two children born to Henley and Connie. After being raised in various places in England and Wales, Brenda studied to become a teacher and taught for several years in England.
Brenda then immigrated to Montreal to teach, initially for a one-year assignment, and made her way west over several years. She met her future husband, Jack – also a teacher, in Salmon Arm. They married in 1966. Brenda and Jack moved to Courtenay and then Victoria. Brenda devoted the next several years to raising her son John and being a loving homemaker. In 2016, Brenda and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Brenda developed her artistic talents from sewing to realistic oil and water colour painting. She became an active member of a local art society, making more friends and showing and selling her paintings and crafts throughout Greater Victoria. Brenda won countless awards at the Saanich Fall Fair for her various styles of paintings.
With son John, several visits were made to Brenda’s family and friends in the UK and other European destinations. Subsequently, Brenda and Jack travelled further afield along the Pacific Rim and back to Europe. Brenda enjoyed travelling and learning other cultures. Brenda loved local drives around the Greater Victoria and Sooke waterfront and the Saanich Peninsula.
Above all, Brenda was devoted to her family. She is lovingly remembered by her son John, daughter-in-law Louise, grandson Daniel, granddaughter Natalie, family, and friends.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
