Never one to "go down easy" Brian lost his determined and courageous battle with cancer on Friday June 23, 2017. In the end, he went peacefully while sleeping. Brian was born in Saskatoon, grew up and attended university in Edmonton and then came to Victoria to establish his family practice. He loved the practice of medicine and had hoped to continue for many years. Medicine allowed him to get to know and spend time with his patients while providing opportunities for many adventures and endeavors: a founding physician and great supporter of Shelbourne Medical Clinic, one of the originators of and early participants with ViVa (Victoria Vanuatu Physicians Project), one of the creators of Osler Software. Life was always one big adventure for Brian; he lived, worked and played hard. He loved to golf, ski, hike, renovate. His best and most frequent adventures were with his family, Fran his wife of forty years, son Paul, daughter Stephanie and his brother Jerry. Brian was predeceased by daughter Jillian. We know he will be missed by everyone who knew him and especially his large extended family. A celebration of life will be held July 29th at 11 AM in the Hall at St Matthias Church, corner of Richardson St. and Richmond Ave. in Victoria. Hall and parking off Richardson. Donations in his memory can be made to the Victoria Hospice Society at : https://www.victoriahospice.org/patients-families/memoriam/brian-philip-spencer.
