Bruce Sanderson

d. September 28, 2012

Bruce was happiest on the water, sailing through Georgia Strait and the Gulf Islands. Whether charting a course to the next destination, teaching a new sailor, or maintaining Surt, Bruce loved everything about sailing. He was the ultimate calm sailor. Born in England, Bruce emigrated with his parents to Delta as a young boy. He received his schooling in Delta, Kitimat, and Burnaby before moving to Ottawa. There he learned to sail and joined the ground floor of the computer revolution. Moving to Victoria in 1975, he began a long career with BC Assessment, where he will be greatly missed. Bruce was a Cub leader with Scouts Canada when his sons were young. He was active for many years with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 89 Pacific Squadron Support Association, where he held many executive positions. Bruce will be forever remembered by his wife Anne, children Andrew (Christine), Robin, and Nathan, honorary daughters Jane, Dana and Samantha, four siblings, nieces, nephews, and the many people whose lives he touched. Our thanks go to VGH 7S staff, Hospice staff and volunteers, Dr. Patricia Ty, and Ed and Diana Life for all their help and support. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on 16 October at 13:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oak Bay Sea Rescue Society or Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation.
