Cameron Lloyd Harris

Cam was born in Brandon, Manitoba, July 12, 1927 to George and Leta Harris.

Cam passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov 30, at the age of 90, after a brief stay in hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria B.C. Cam lived a long  full life, and will be missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched.

Cam attended school in Brandon, Manitoba and Banff, Alberta. He graduated from Banff High School in 1945, and worked as a lifeguard at Banff Hotsprings during his school years there. After high school, he started work in pharmacies in Banff and Calgary. Cam married the love of his life Helen Cory, at Portage la Prairie on August 5, 1950. Cam's work in pharmacies led to 25 years in sales for John Wyeth Pharmacutical Company in Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton, spending 20 years in Edmonton where their 4 oldest children were raised. Cam and Helen moved to Victoria in 1974 with their two youngest daughters to be closer to a brother and sister.  Cam worked in sales and management for Eatons in Victoria until his retirement  in 1992.

Cam was deeply comitted to The United Church, and served in various capacities at Strathearn United in Edmonton, and Gordon Head United in Victoria, where they met many life long friends. Music was also important, as Cam and Helen enjoyed live music and theatre in Edmonton and Victoria. Living in Victoria also meant many visits to the ocean for walks, crabbing and just enjoying the beautiful scenery. Most recently they spent countless  hours at Rainbow Park, watching the cruise ships come and go. Toastmasters was an organization he enjoyed being part of; learning and teaching the art of public speaking. Whatever singing group Helen was in, Cam seemed to always end up as their manager, doing their booking and setting up thier equipment if necessary. Cam enjoyed curling and swimming, and up until the last few years he would swim lengths at local pools for exercise.

More than anything, Cam enjoyed his time with family and friends. Whether it was a music recital, dance recital or a sporting event like baseball, soccer, hockey or wrestling, Cam was there to support his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, board games, watching sports; such as football, curling and baseball, with the Toronto Blue Jays at the top of his list of favorites.

After retirement Cam and Helen travelled the world. Europe, Britain, Australia, Hawaii, and Mexico were favorite destinations of theirs. They also enjoyed many trips back to the prairies to visit family and friends in Red Deer, Edmonton and Portage la Prairie, where Helen's sister and family lived.

Cam's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen, his daughter Cori-Ann Greene; his sons Dallas(Maureen) and Garrett(Frances); his daughters Janet(Rocco) Catalano and Margy(Dave) Gamble; sister in law Erna Harris; nieces Nancy Mossop, Sandy Harris, Carol Kruck and Paula Wohlgemuth; nephew Clarke Munro; cousin Roy(Julie) Kading, as well as 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Cam was predeceased by his parents George and Leta Harris; siblings Dallas, Glen, Bill and Frances Watts;  sisters in law, Ruth Harris, Marg Munro; brothers in law John Watts, Allan Munro; son in law Stuart Greene and nephews Stevie, Bill and Johnny Harris.

A celebration of Cam's life will take place at 2PM on Monday, December 18,2017 at Cadboro Bay United Church, Victoria B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Victoria Hospice Society.
