Our mother and grandmother, Carole Anne Smith, loved her children, her grandchildren, dancing (especially English country and contra dancing), choir singing of all types (including classical music in German!) and her full and varied life in Victoria.
A professional cook on the Great Lakes cargo ships for 30 years, she was born in Toronto but lived in many different locations across Canada until moving to Victoria 11 years ago. She was an avid and adventurous traveller, loving nothing better than slinging on a rucksack and setting off. She explored numerous countries on five continents, until osteoporosis made travel and an independent life increasingly difficult.
A member of the Capital Unitarian Universalist congregation, she died peacefully on March 2, 2022, on her own terms (as she had lived her life). She is survived by her brother Donald, her children Jennifer, Leslie, Allyson and Douglas, and her grandchildren Gillian and Malcolm.
A celebration of life will occur at a later date.
