Carolyn Granewall (nee Speakman)
November 8th, 1946 - January 31, 2025
It is with great sadness at our loss, and appreciation for a life well-lived, that we share news of the peaceful passing on the morning of January 31st of our beloved friend, Carolyn Granewall. Carolyn passed from this life at her home at The Village, Langley, after a short period of illness and hospitalization for heart complications.
Pre-deceased in 2012 by her loving husband and life-long friend, Nels Granewall, she leaves behind many loving friends.
Carolyn was born and grew up in Victoria, the only child of her parents Jack Speakman (1914-1997) and Alvena “Tippi” Angell (1919-2013). Carolyn taught French at Reynolds High School, and had an extensive social network. She was well known for her gregarious, outgoing, generous, fun-loving nature and she explored the world and its cultures with her unique blend of kindness and intensity. She loved the arts, music, French language & cuisine, had a penchant for pottery, and was a frequent traveller.
Carolyn supported Ambassadorial Rotary scholars, sharing her home and local knowledge with students worldwide. She loved to dance, laugh and make new friends wherever she found herself and was loyal to the ones she had made throughout her life.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, 2:00 pm at the University Club, University of Victoria, Victoria, BC. Please email mcconkeys@camosun.ca for details.
A huge bouquet of thanks to the many dedicated staff of The Village Langley, who supported Carolyn, and assisted her many visiting friends, in her journey of cognitive loss and failing memories over the last 5 years of her life.
Instead of flowers, and in consideration of Carolyn's passionate commitment to supporting students and education, donations may be made at the University of Victoria on this page. https://extrweb.uvic.ca/donate/carolyn-granewall
