It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Bernadette Hawkins, a loving mother, a remarkable woman, and a devout Roman Catholic. Catherine died at Berwick House, in the Brio unit in the early morning hours of Wednesday June 10th 2026. She had many weeks of constant visitors, both friends and family, after being discharged from Royal Jubilee Hospital May 19 into pallative care.
Catherine grew up in Kingston, Ontario and attended the Convent School of Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame , then Queen’s University and Ottawa Teacher’s College. Catherine taught elementary school in the Catholic and public systems for a few years, then tutored literary skills, but spent most of her married life raising her growing family as they lived in Kingston Ontario, Belleville Ontario and finally Victoria BC.
Catherine was always very supportive and loving of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, even when she sometimes didn’t quite get them. She had faith that things would always work out. Surviving Catherine, who was pre-deceased by her husband Keith, is her daughter Mary Bellstedt (Johann) of London Ontario, and grandchild Sarah Bellstedt (Ali), grandchild Lisa Bellstedt and grandchild Michelle Bellstedt (Steve); son John Hawkins (Laura) of Victoria BC and grandchild Christopher Hawkins (Angela), great grandchildren Kay and Ben, grandchild Meghan Schmitz (Richard) and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Cassidy, grandchild Jason Hawkins (Heather Gamber) and great grandchildren Alexandria and Cyrus, and grandchild Stephanie McDermott (Jesse) and greatgrand child Felicity; son Michael Hawkins of Victoria BC, step-grandchildren Lindsay and Stephanie; son Stephen Hawkins (Bettina) of Denman Island BC.
There will be a funeral mass offered for Catherine at Holy Cross Parish in Gordon Head on July 24th at 10am. She will be laid to rest with her husband Keith Hawkins at St. Mary’s Cemetary in Kingston Ontario.
