Charles McKinnon Cameron, on December 22, 2024. Born in Scotland in 1934 and immigrated to Canada in 1956 residing in Montreal, Ottawa and most recently Victoria, BC, Charles (Charlie) is survived by his two adult daughters, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephew. With deep respect for his Scottish roots and extensive Scottish music collection, he was an even prouder Canadian. Charlie Cameron was by all accounts a force of nature. Despite his advanced years, his passing comes as a surprise to all who knew him. He lived fiercely independently to the last minute, with a full social calendar and driver's license. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, historian, political pundit and scotch connoisseur, he will be sorely missed. He loved his family with a passion, and embraced a new and prominent role in the lives of his grandchildren since becoming a widower in 2011. Professionally, he dedicated decades to the Department of National Defense and was justifiably proud of his contributions to naval engineering in Canada, having positively influenced countless naval engineers, uniformed or not. Chief among his contributions to this world and all those who knew him, however, was his friendship. Straightforward and unvarnished, you always knew where you stood with Charlie. He’d set you straight when you needed it, and could be set straight by those he respected and loved - which were many. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to raise a glass (ideally, a single malt), toast Charlie, and aspire to be the most unapologetically authentic and loyal friend possible. Celebration of life will occur on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spinnakers located at 308 Catherine Street, Victoria.
