WO Christopher "Chris" John Hoyt CD2
Our family is heartbroken to announce the death of Christopher John Hoyt, age 57 years, the beloved
son of Judith T. Wile, Sydney, NS and John H. Hoyt (Winnie), Mahone Bay, NS. Chris, surrounded by
family and friends. passed away with the assistance of MAID after a short illness with pancreatic
cancer on Friday 20 December 2024, in Hospice Care, Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC and was
stationed at CFB Esquimalt, BC.
Chris was born in the Grace Maternity Hospital, Halifax, NS on 23 April 1967. Raised in Dartmouth
and Sydney, NS he followed his 'Big Brother' James "Jim" Suffidy to Toronto, ON where he completed
his High School education while working as a Security Guard. With the support and encouragement of
his 'Big Brother', Chris joined the RCAF in 1988 where he served in various medical capacities, until
shortly before his death.
He was posted to Canadian Bases including Borden, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Shilo,
Regina and Equimalt as well as being deployed to Germany, Rwanda, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Lebanon
and Ukraine, where he was known as "The Doc" by both the locals and those who served alongside
him.
Chris was a quiet, kind, gentle, man who was a proud, loyal member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Chris loved nature, bicycling, writing numerous letters to family and his many lifelong friends with the
pens he so avidly collected. Chris enjoyed relaxing with classical music and, along with his penchant
for reading books and poetry, he also collected timepieces.
Chris is survived by all who loved him very much, besides his parents: his sister Jennifer "Jen" Hoyt
(Stuart Inglis), nephews Nathan and Alexander Inglis, all of Halifax, NS. Stepmother Winnie Hoyt,
Mahone Bay, NS, stepsister Diane Spencer (Eric), Bridgewater, NS, stepbrother Trevor Spencer
(Janice), Hammonds Plains, NS. Maternal Aunts: Geri Findlay, Trenton, ON, Wendy Chadwick (John),
Coxheath, CB, NS, Pam Wile (Paul Armstrong), Halifax, NS. Special maternal Uncle Wayne F.
(Maureen Conrad) Wile, Williamswood, NS and Uncle Martin Lacombe, South Glengarry, ON, also
survived by many cousins. Two special cousins, Michael Chadwick, West Bay, CB, NS and Gregory
Findlay, Sherwood Park, AB, who always kept in touch with Chris throughout his lifetime. Maternal
great-aunt Marion (McCann) McNeil with whom he had a special connection.
Chris was predeceased by paternal grandparents George A. [1967] and Catherine M. [1981] (Terry)
Hoyt, maternal grandparents Frederick E. [1970] and Vivian E. [2012] (McCann) Wile. Uncle David
Wile [1944], Aunt Sharon Lacombe [2022], and Uncle Robert Findlay [2024]. "Chrissy" shared a
special bond with Gram Wile that developed during his formative years when she was his primary
caregiver. Special friend and 'Big Brother' (Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Breton), James Suffidy
[2019], whom he loved dearly.
Cremation is under the care of Earth's Option Cremation & Burial Services, Victoria, BC. A committal
service will be held Sunday 19 January 2025 at 10:30 am in Veterans Cemetery God's Acre, Victoria,
BC with Captain Padre Tyler Powell, CFB Esquimalt, officiating. Reception will be held directly after
the committal service at the Chief and Petty Officers' Mess, 1575 Lyall St., Victoria, BC V9A 5L6
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice or Palliative Care, Royal Jubilee Hospital,
Victoria, BC or Esquimalt, MFRC, Victoria, BC. Condolences can be left by visiting

The family wishes to thank Drs. Kevin Wade, Douglas McGregor, Mitch Drake, all staff and volunteers
in Palliative and Hospice Care at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their outstanding care and support. We
would also like to thank the Canadian Armed Forces and Chris' many friends who provided love and
support during this difficult time.

A committal service will be held Sunday 19 January 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Cemetery God's Acre, Victoria, BC with Captain Padre Tyler Powell, CFB Esquimalt, officiating. Reception (1100 Hrs. to 1300 Hrs.) will be held directly after the committal service at the Chief and Petty Officers' Mess, 1575 Lyall St., Victoria, BC., V9A 5L6.
