Clarence, the son of French Acadian parents, was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. As a child he spent many idyllic summers with extended family in Grand Etang and with his Father, brother and cousins at a self-built cabin in the woods of Cape Breton. It is during these times that he developed an appreciation for nature and expressed it through photography and Super 8 videography. He attended High School at Sydney Academy and studied photography in Halifax. Returning to Sydney, he apprenticed with local photography legend Johnny Abbass at Abbass Studios. Clarence later moved to Calgary and then to Vancouver Island. Music was a big part of his persona and he played piano, guitar, drums, & fiddle, with great satisfaction. He also sang. It gave us all great pleasure. Clarence surrounded himself with people who shared his interests, with conversations inevitably leading to music. He enjoyed sharing his love of music and photography throughout southern Vancouver Island. He was a long time member and participant of the Victoria Bluegrass Association, and attended numerous Bluegrass Festivals on Vancouver Island and BC mainland. Clarence was involved in many occupations and his latest endeavour was in Sidney, B.C., where he restored well-used, string instruments to their former glory. Clarence suffered from cancer and passed peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital on Sept 30, 2015. Clarence is predeceased by his mother Dora, father Denis and sister Anne. He is survived by his brother David of Sydney, Nova Scotia. A Celebration of Life 'Memorial Event' will be held in Sidney, early in November, 2015.
