Clifford Ronald SPENCE
Our dearest father, Cliff, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 at the age of 91. As we grieve his loss, we take solace in knowing he is in God’s care and is now reunited with the love of his life, our mother Lois, who predeceased him in 2001.
Left to mourn his loss and treasure the memories are his three daughters, one son-in-law, six grandchildren and their partners, and the joys of his later life his five great grandchildren. Cliff’s loss is also deeply felt by his brother and two sisters who loved him so much.
Born on a farm on the Saskatchewan Prairie during a difficult era, Cliff learned the lessons of hard work, effort, selflessness, and dedication taught by his father. His mother instilled in him, a curiosity and excitement for learning and a love of reading that lasted his entire life. He carried all of these lessons with him until the day he passed away.
Honorable, dedicated, kind, and intelligent, Cliff lived a life of service to his country, his province and his family. This service began when at age 19 he joined the RCMP. After marrying our mother, he left the RCMP and joined the Air Force in an investigative role. From the Air Force he moved over to take a job as a fire investigator with the Government of BC in the Provincial Fire Marshall’s office. In his early 30s he took on night school to earn a degree in Public Administration which allowed him to pursue a career in Human Resource Management with the provincial government. he retired as the Executive Director of Human Resources for the B.C.Ministry of Health. After a brief retirement he started Spence Consulting which kept him busy for many years.
Cliff loved his family more than anything and cherished every moment spent together. The hours spent around the dining room table, solving world problems, sharing family ancestry and history, laughing at the stories we would share were some of his favourite times. We all counted our blessings as a family, and in his memory we will carry on in a way that would make him proud.
He touched so many lives in such a positive way and we are very moved by the messages we have been receiving since his passing.
Please join us for a Celebration of Cliff’s Life on Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This will take place at the Prospect Lake Community Hall, 5358 Spartan Road. We do hope to see you there.
