Cornelis Daniel Bouman

Cornelis Daniel Bouman (born October 23, 1963) died in the early morning of September 10, 2026 from (AML) leukaemia, a type of cancer for which there is no cure. Dan is survived by his partner Gord, his children Kaleb and Mckylie, to whom he was uniquely known as Pops, and his brothers Paul and Gino.

Dan lived most of his life on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. As a child, he moved to the Comox Valley from Sarnia, Ontario. For the last 30 years he lived on the lower island. Before settling in Victoria, his career as a social worker prompted a move to Fort St. John where he met Kelli, a close friend and the mother of Kaleb and Mckylie. He maintained compassion and a charitable disposition throughout his career, offering rare stability to many youth in the foster care system.

Dan will be remembered as a thoughtful, witty, and amiable man. Throughout his life, Dan stayed in touch with relatives in the Netherlands and friends scattered across the globe. Closer friends and family will remember the familiar hello said to his security guard (a.k.a. the answering machine) before permitted to say hello to Dan–those pesky spam calls! He easily connected too with his Esquimalt neighbourhood and with nature. To his final days, he continued to appreciate a drive to the ocean, his carefully-planted garden, his companionship with indoor cat Callie and his befriending of a local outdoor cat named Pepper.

Dan/Pops is loved and will truly be missed.
