Daniel Bowes, 1940 2024.
Dan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14th, leaving us all in shock. He led a full life and will be missed by many.
Born, March 22, 1940, Dan grew up in Fort St. John, BC and worked in the family GM dealership. His main hobby then was stock cars and he helped build the track in FSJ. He earned his pilot’s license, was a proud member and instructor of the FSJ cadets for many years, and obtained a Business Administration Diploma at BCIT along the way.
He met and married Bev (nee Maddocks) in 1970, and they moved to Fort Nelson, B.C. where Dan began a 25 year career with Canada Manpower. They eventually moved from Fort Nelson to Vancouver where their son, Richard, was born. In 1975 the family moved to Victoria.
Dan loved the outdoors and spent many family holidays camping around BC. He was an active member of the Malahat Marauders, a black powder shooting and tomahawk throwing club. Decked out in period finery, the family enjoyed many organized camping events.
Dan retired at 55, finishing his career as a Labour Market Analyst for Canada Manpower. He and Bev went on to enjoy almost 30 years of camping and travelling on the island, throughout the US and in Mexico, mostly in a converted Greyhound bus. He was a proud member of Escapees Travel club, making many friends along the way. He would be quick to say these were his happiest times.
In 1996, granddaughter, Tiana, was born, further enriching his life.
Dan was known for his stories, jokes, and warm hospitality. His family and many, many friends will miss his smile and big, heartfelt hugs. `Keep on truckin’ Dan.
