Daniel Thomas Roddy

November 2, 1988 — December 7, 2023

Daniel Thomas Roddy

Daniel Thomas Roddy, graced this world on November 2, 1988, and unexpectedly departed on December 7, 2023, soaring into the eternal freedom beyond. He leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories, wrapped in the warmth of his charming, charismatic, and free-spirited essence, survived by his loving mother Marie Roddy.

Daniel's magnetic personality touched the hearts of many, creating lasting bonds with friends and family, including his dear Gran (Ann Roddy) of Ottawa, Ont., and Okum (Isla Whiteway) of Berens River, Mb. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a plethora of friends and families will forever miss him.

With dreams of becoming a writer, Daniel's educational journey mirrored his diverse interests in travel, food, sports, reading, and photography. From competitive downhill skiing, a passion he inherited from his father, and soccer, where he won several championships with a variety of teams in his youth, to mastering the art of golf. He found joy in every game played, especially in the company of his mother and friends, even when his friends were not ready for the level of competitiveness he would bring to every game. Yet, his true passions were reserved for the mountains and the embrace of ocean waves in beautiful British Columbia.

Daniel's insatiable wanderlust led him to traverse the globe and hopscotch across Canada, making friends in every corner. From his childhood travels to northern Manitoba to later adventures around the globe to a variety of countries such as Thailand, China, El Salvador, and Australia, he embraced the richness of diverse scenery and cultures. He was always curious to venture into the unknown and would regularly recant wildly unique stories from these travels. He made strong connections with the people he encountered while on his travels and in the places he would call home.

In his varied career pursuits, Daniel explored roles as a car salesman, bartender, server, carpenter, tree planter, landscaper, mushroom picker, and even dabbled in the culinary arts. All these experiences mirrored Daniel's variety of hobbies and interests and complimented his sense of adventure. Yet, amidst these ventures, tree planting in the mountains resonated with him most profoundly, connecting him with nature's challenges that fueled his mental and physical resilience.

A celebration of Daniel's vibrant life will be held on January 20, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Leaf, 2nd floor, Assiniboine Park, exclusively for close friends and family. Cremation has already taken place, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Place, 919 Pandora Ave., Victoria BC V8V 3P4.

Heartfelt gratitude extends to the family and friends whose unwavering support has been a comforting embrace during this challenging time. In bidding farewell to Daniel, we remember not just a life lived but a spirit that soared freely, leaving an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
