David Robert Henderson

We are very sad to announce the passing of David Robert Henderson on July 22nd, 2026. Dave passed away, with his family at his side after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dave was born in East Vancouver in 1948 to Jean & Robert Henderson. He enjoyed some and persevered many vocations in his lifetime - from working in the Nickel mines of Sudbury to building and running his own shingle mill in Toquaht Bay - he pursued whatever he did with energy, resilience and optimism. His happiest times working were without question his years driving the water taxis on the North Coast in Port McNeil where his wife Sharon Henderson was the Harbour Master. Known locally for his willingness to persevere, inclement weather and his ability to safely (albeit at times uncomfortably) navigate perilous conditions - his smile was a beacon on the foggiest of days. His final chapter of work was with the Victoria Harbour Ferries - a gentle last chapter where he met many wonderful friends.

Of all his duties - he conducted his job as “Old Grampa” to June and Moira with the most vigor and enthusiasm. He shied away from no task and was a regular at the after-school pick-up line, soccer practices and every other thing in between. He could often be seen walking the streets with the two girls hand-in-hand…and that is where he leaves his greatest mark - on the imprints of those smaller hands.

The women in his life meant a great deal to him and he maintained lifelong friendships with his previous partners. He met his great life love and lifelong partner, Sherry Henderson in the late 1970’s and enjoyed a long and happy marriage until her passing in 2016.

While he was known to be a person dedicated to his family - he also had great love and devotion to his friends - even in the weeks leading up to his passing - he sought out these friends to quietly say his goodbyes. Dave leaves behind many who will miss him deeply and forever. In addition to many friends and extended family members, he leaves behind his daughter Sarah, his five grandchildren (Ashley, Carly, Courtney, June and Moira), his sister Sandy Sharlow and his nieces, Jennifer and Christina.

He is predeceased by his wife Sherry and his daughter Becky. We hope they are together in peace and love. Details of Dave’s Celebration of Life will be communicated at a later date.
