David King

Dr. David Randall King Passed away peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary King of California, he is survived by his wife, Grace Kamitakahara; brother, Kenneth King; in-laws, Joyce (Paul) Pearlstone; Nobby (Shirley) Kamitakahara; niece; nephews; and many friends. Born May 14,1931 in East Chicago, Indiana, he received his BSEE, Electrical Engineering (Purdue University); his MA, Science (San Jose State); and his Phd, Physics and Oceanography (University of British Columbia). His undergraduate studies were interrupted by service in the US Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the UN Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Silver Medal (for bravery). Before coming to Canada, David worked as a scientist in space physics for Lockheed Missiles and Space Co.,(California); and as a physicist for Marine Geology, US Geological Survey, (California). David pursued his interests from motorcycling in the American Southwest, to North American native art, to classical music with much focused enthusiasm. He is remembered as a kind, fun-loving, unique individual who saw the lighter side of life. His family would like to thank Dr. C Bosman and the staff at ECU Saanich Peninsula Hospital for the excellent and loving care he received.
