David Andrew Lam

With sadness we announce the passing of David Andrew Lam, born December 14, 1954 in Vancouver, BC, died August 29, 2023 in Victoria, BC.

David was a lover of words and a lover of film. He was a writer, a raconteur, and an inveterate fan of The Rolling Stones. In life, he did his best to maintain good form in manner and on the tennis court.

David’s early career was in journalism, first with the CBC then as an independent producer. He dabbled briefly with French cooking then completed a Master of Arts in Communication and acquired dual Canadian/US citizenship. He met Sherri Daymon and for the duration of their 17 year marriage lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest USA.

Returning to Canada to be closer to family, he continued to enjoy extended visits to Hawaii until his first stroke in December 2020. He struggled with aphasia but his observation of his condition was unvarnished and succinct: “I’m trying, but it’s a hard road…and then it’s over”. His fourth stroke was in July 2023.

David was a son to Leatrice, brother to Nance and James, brother-in-law to Debra Flood, and uncle to Holly. He was predeceased by his father Andrew, as well as by other relatives. Despite challenges in the final years he remained loyal to his family and appreciative of his circle of long-time friends.

A family memorial will be held. No flowers, thank you. In his memory, please donate to a charity of your choice.
