McFarlane, Argyle David April 7, 1940 March 5, 2015 David McFarlane of Caroline, Alberta passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Victoria, British Columbia at the age of 74. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Vivien (nee Longoz), his children and their spouses Alan and Stacy, Bruce and Lauren, Camille and Joel; and four grandchildren Adelaide, Clara, Laike and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his brother Bob, sisters Joy and Sharon, and many loving nieces and nephews. David was born in Edmonton, Alberta to John Argyle and Voris McFarlane; the middle in a family of 7 children. He has always worked. As he often said, Ive been working since I was eight years old. First as a newspaper boy, and then at Eatons prior to becoming a teacher. Upon graduation from the University of Alberta he taught in Hines Creek and then settled in Caroline, Alberta where he taught until his retirement in 1995. David had a love of history and reading that he shared with his students. He was also the Hunter Training instructor for many years, taking students on Outdoor Education trips and to provincial competitions. David was able to fulfill his lifelong dreams of homesteading, raising a family, travelling the world, and having his own history and literary library. His family and friends will remember him as a loving family man, avid gardener, super handyman, outdoorsman, genealogist and raconteur. A family celebration of Davids life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Caroline Public Library or the Salvation Army.
