David William Morris

December 21, 1945 – November 15, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for the years we shared, we announce the passing of David William Morris, who left us peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Malby, Yorkshire, England, David carried the values of his upbringing—kindness, humility, and quiet strength—through every chapter of his life, from his years in the Royal Navy to his time in Canada and finally his retirement in Victoria.

Those who knew David understood that behind his gentle nature was a man of remarkable depth and experience. His decades of naval service shaped him profoundly. He travelled the world, served on historic ships, formed unbreakable friendships, and played a part in operations and communications that stayed with him for life. Even in later years, a glimpse of the White Ensign or the sound of a ship’s whistle could stir memories he held dear.

After immigrating to Canada in 1975, David built a successful career in computer operations and post-secondary systems at NAIT, GMCC/MacEwan, CEISS, and OA Solutions. Across every workplace, he became the steady presence people relied on—the man who could solve a problem, calm a room, and still find something to laugh about. Many of his colleagues became lifelong friends.

But above all, David was a family man. He leaves behind his devoted wife Clara, who walked beside him through their greatest joys and hardest storms. He is survived by his sons Michael (Kryssy), Leon (Lisa) and grandchildren Ayla and Aydin, and by his daughter Lisa (Rob) and grandson David—each of whom brought him pride, purpose, and immeasurable love. He is also survived by his sister Pat and her husband Terry, along with relatives, friends, former shipmates, and neighbours who were enriched by knowing him.

David was a true gentleman—liked by all, respected by many, and loved deeply by those closest to him. He believed in punctuality with an almost comical seriousness, frequently reminding us: “If you’re five minutes early, you’re late.” It was one of his many quirks that made him unforgettable.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society British Columbia.

In the spring, we will honour David by scattering his ashes at sea—a fitting farewell for a sailor at heart. Afterwards, friends and family will gather at a pub to raise a pint in his memory, just as he would have wanted.

Fair winds and following seas, David. You are loved, and you will be missed.
