David John Shrive

February 29, 1956 — August 5, 2024

Dave passed peacefully following a brief illness with his wife Carol by his side. Born and raised in Victoria, Dave attended Hillcrest Elementary, Arbutus Junior High, Camosun College and UVic. He worked many jobs over the years, finishing his career at the Canada Revenue Agency.

Diagnosed with MS at the age of 17, Dave was passionate about advocating for people with disabilities. He served on the Boards of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the MS Society, Camosun College, the Camosun College Foundation, the Disability Resource Centre and the Advisory Committee for the Royal visit at Beacon Hill Park in 1994, ensuring the site was accessible for people with disabilities. He was honoured to be presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip during that visit. He also ran for Victoria City council in 1993 on a platform of barrier free access for all.

Dave will be remembered for his generous heart, his sense of humour and his sense of adventure, including opportunities to try para sailing and hang gliding. Dave and Carol enjoyed travelling, including cruises to the Caribbean and Panama Canal and a dream cruise and vacation in Europe.

Dave was predeceased by his parents Marguerite and Ronald Shrive and his brother Ronnie. He is survived by his wife Carol (Foott); siblings Linda (Jim), Garry (Monique), Patricia (Bud) and Chris (Maggie); Mother-in-Law Peggy Foott and sisters in law, Jamie Foott and Sandi Norton (Jeff), many nieces and nephews and their families.

Many thanks to the amazing VIHA homecare and nursing staff that spent time with Dave over the years. Thank you also to the doctors and nurses at RJH that cared for Dave during his stay there.

Rest easy Sweetheart
