In Loving Memory of Deepender Singh

Deepender Singh

January 23, 1999 – August 18, 2026

“

He always spoke about his family with love, pride, and respect.

Deepender Singh, 27, of Victoria, British Columbia, passed away in the early hours of August 18, 2026, following a tragic swimming incident at Goldstream Falls.

On the evening of August 17, Deepender had gone to Goldstream Falls with a friend. While there, Deepender was caught in the strong current near the waterfall. Danielle and Carl, who were nearby, responded immediately and courageously. They entered the water, searched for Deepender in difficult conditions, brought him to shore, and began life-saving efforts until emergency responders arrived. Deepender was then taken to hospital.

Despite the heroic efforts of emergency responders and medical professionals, Deepender passed away in the early hours of August 18 after spending few hours in hospital. It brings some comfort to know that Deepender was not alone in his final moments. His friends stayed by his bed side, showing extraordinary compassion as medical staff did everything possible to save him.

Deepender’s family and loved ones are deeply grateful to Danielle and Carl for their kindness, bravery, and every effort they made to help him when he needed it most.

“

Deepender lived more in his 27 years than many people experience in a lifetime.

Born in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India, Deepender came to Canada in 2017 to study at Camosun College. He made Victoria his home, graduated from Camosun College, and built a meaningful career in IT. For more than four years, he worked in IT Support at Western Canada Marine Response Corporation, where he was hardworking, reliable, and proud of his work.

Becoming a Canadian citizen was a meaningful and proud moment for Deepender. His friends remember how excited he was to vote for the first time in Canada’s most recent federal election. It meant more to him than simply casting a ballot. It was an important milestone in the life he had worked so hard to build in Canada.

Deepender loved travelling and seeing the world. He had recently returned from New York and was looking forward to a future trip to Iceland. He loved fashion, had a natural sense of style, and always liked to look his best. He enjoyed modelling, dressing well, and living every moment fully.

Friends remember Deepender as someone who lived life fully and without hesitation. He worked hard to build his future in Canada and achieved so much through his own determination. At the same time, he remained deeply devoted to his family. He supported his parents in India and helped his brothers with their studies and transition to Canada. He always spoke about his family with love, pride, and respect.

“

He embraced travel, friendship, style, family, and every opportunity to make a memory.

To those who knew him best, Deepender was kind, caring, fun-loving, and loyal. He had a way of making friends feel like family. To his best friend, Sandeep Saini, Deepender was more than a friend. He was a brother. He was always there with laughter, conversation, encouragement, and a helping hand.

Deepender lived more in his 27 years than many people experience in a lifetime. He embraced travel, friendship, style, family, and every opportunity to make a memory. For those who loved him, there is some comfort in knowing that he was surrounded by the outdoors and waterfalls, something he genuinely enjoyed, during his final adventure.

Deepender is survived by his parents and his two brothers, who will carry his love and memory with them always. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family in India and Canada, his friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life was made brighter by his warmth and friendship.
