Donald Hamilton

d. December 24, 2012

After a brave battle with pancreatic cancer Don passed away peacefully, in hospice, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband, father, papa, brother and friend, he is survived by his wife Gail, sons John (Connie), Grant (Katie), grandchildren Taylor, Matthew, Elle, Bria, Kendra and Oliver, Sister Jamie, Sue, and nephews and nieces. Predeceased by parents Sydney and Catherine and brother Kenny, Don was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Don and Gail were married in 1962 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last March. They raised two boys who were Dons pride and joy. Don worked for the TD Bank, Hudsons Bay Wholesale and Glover-Drennan. Don coached lacrosse and hockey for Saanich and served on the executive for Victoria Jr. A Lacrosse. He also played old-timers hockey with the Sidney Re-Treads until his illness prevented him from continuing. Don was a member of the VicPD Crime Watch Volunteers where he and his three buddies were affectionately known as the A Team. His favorite times were those spent with family and friends and summers at Shawnigan Lake. Don lived life with strength, tolerance, loyalty and respect. To his six grandchildren he was their beloved Papa. Thank you to the wonderful nurses who cared for Don while he was in hospice and at home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation. Please come and celebrate Dons blessed life at the Royal Canadian Legion - Esquimalt (622 Admirals Road) on Sunday January 13th at 1:00pm.
