Donald 'Neil' Walker

d. October 15, 2015

It is with both sorrow and thanksgiving that our family announces Neil's death. For 57 years, Neil shared his life with his best friend and wife, Margaret. He was the proud father of Allison, Shauna, and Paul and their spouses Mark, Flois, and Nicole as well as the beloved Papa of Pateil, Michael, Marria, Matthew, Emily, Elliott, and Amanda. He will be missed by his two brothers Ross and Gordon, his brothers and sister-in-law Barry, Bernard, and Audrey as well as by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Neil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His family moved to Calgary, Alberta at the age of two. Neil obtained his DDS at the U of A in 1958. In 1965, he completed a program of a post- graduate training in Periodontics at the University of Oregon's Dental School. Neil skillfully and compassionately practiced dentistry - first in Calgary and then in Victoria when the family moved there in 1979. He was an active church member and an enthusiastic outdoorsperson. He will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, wisdom, integrity, tenacity, love of family and friends, practical and thoughtful approach to life, and his wonderful sense of humour. He was a 'Mr. Fix-it' for many. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1994, he soldiered on, never complaining, and always appreciative.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 1611 Quadra St., Victoria, BC on November 6, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Victoria Epilepsy and Parkinson's Centre, Suite 202-1640 Oak Bay Ave., Victoria, BC V8R 1B2, to the Church of St. John the Divine's "Refugee New Family Support", or to a charity of your choice.
The family thanks all those caring people whose concern, prayers, and countless acts of kindness have sustained and upheld us - particularly during these last days. We extend special thanks to Lynn and Bruce whose loving and professional care allowed Neil to remain home for as long as he did, to the staff of the 4NE at Royal Jubilee Hospital and to the countless professionals who helped us care for him.
