It is with great sadness that we announce that Doreen passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on May 20, 2015 at the age of 83 after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Wilfred (1985) and Elsie Butler (1981), her beloved husband Peter Doherty (1984) and her daughter-in-law, Willo Doherty (2015), Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michael Doherty, Penticton, Sharon de Goede (Ken Boettcher), Courtenay and Susan (Steve) Coates, Victoria; her grandchildren, David, Laura, Kristine and Robert Doherty, Geoffrey Bunting, Krissta (Iain) Campbell, Jacob and Thyssen de Goede, Heather, Rebecca and Stephanie Coates; her great-grandson Max Campbell; her sister and brother-in-law Elsie May and Bill Mayzes and numerous nieces and nephews. Doreen was born in Victoria, June 21, 1931. Mom loved to travel and spent many years travelling all over the world. Always active, she was involved with Esquimalt Curling and then lawn bowling at Juan de Fuca. Doreen was an avid volunteer and gave countless hours to the Victoria Hospice Society, the VGH Auxiliary, and JdF Lawn Bowling, including the Commonwealth Games in 1994. She was always there for family and friends; her generous and caring spirit will be remembered by all that knew her. She brought joy, love and support to her family and will be sadly missed. Graveside service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 1pm. If desired, donations may be made in Doreen's honour to the Canadian Cancer Society, Victoria Hospice Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
