Doris passed away peacefully on Sept 23, 2017, 2 days shy of her 90th birthday. Predeceased by her husband Bob in November 2014. Survived by her three children and their spouses, Monte/Gail, Rick/Deborah, Leanne/John, her 5 grandchildren (Harley, Jesse/Tanya, Kayla/Shane, Amber/Ray and Marissa/Steve) 4 great-grandsons (Tyler, Zane, Luca and Jaxton)...and another great-grandson arriving Feb/18. Doris was born in the family farmhouse in Piapot Saskatchewan. She loved growing up on a farm and often debated the benefits of farm living compared to city living with husband, Bob! Doris followed her older brother, Laurie Dillabaugh, into radio broadcasting - first in Regina and eventually to Victoria, where she became the first female disc jockey in Victoria at CJVI. She met and married fellow DJ, Bob Thompson, in January 1951. When their three kids were school aged, Doris got her real estate license, but soon realized this career required too much time away from family. She shifted her efforts to administration of the front office of the realty company instead. Once retired, she and Bob enjoyed travelling - many cruises, trips to Europe, Hawaii and their home-away-from-home, Palm Springs. Her greatest joy in life was undoubtedly being a grandmother. Doris lived her life with the most positive outlook, truly an inspiration - never complaining and always believing "things will be ok". She was tiny but mighty, humble but proud, sweet but fierce, she faced challenges but was unstoppable. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank staff at the Victorian on McKenzie and Beacon Services for the care and friendship provided to Mom.
