Sue Hyslop

Sue Hyslop, born on July 27, 1938 in Eatonia, SK, passed away on April 28, 2024 in hospital. Sue was a registered nurse, and raised her large family in Saskatoon, SK with her husband Bill, and then retired to the Sooke and Shirley area of Vancouver Island, where she lived for the past thirty years.

Sue has four surviving children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and very many well-loved friends and 'adopted' family members, as well as her funny little dog, Topaz.

Sue was a warm and wise friend with a bright sense of humour. Her welcoming home and especially the kitchen and beautiful garden, were her sanctuary. Some of the many things that brought her joy were family, music, playing cards and community. Sue was very involved in volunteering, particularly for the local arts community, and she is known to many people in Sooke through that work. She served two terms as President of the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra and spent many additional years helping with their fundraising Garden Tour and Chamber Workshop. She also enjoyed volunteering every summer at the Sooke Fine Arts Show. No matter how busy she was, she always made time to lend a sympathetic ear and some words of support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 1962 Murray Road, Sooke, on Wednesday, May 8 from 2 to 4. A small plate of cookies or slices to share with other guests would be welcome, entirely optionally.

In lieu of flowers, information will be provided at the Celebration of Life for making contributions to a local tribute such as a memorial bench. Alternatively, please consider making a donation to the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra: www.sookephil.ca

The Sooke Phil concert on Sunday May 5th from 2:30 to 4:30 at the Sooke Community Hall is being dedicated to her memory, and the family is very touched and grateful.
