Douglas Warren Mcphail

April 2, 1954 — March 15, 2022

Our beloved Doug passed peacefully in Victoria.  Predeceased by parents James and Jean McPhail.  Survived by wife Sharon, sons Lawrence (Suzanne) and Michael; grandchildren Emerson, Reese, Anna, Theo, Veronica and Dehkontee. Brother David (Bonnie), sister Susan (Thomas); nephews Jason, Kevin, Ian, Craig, Gary, Kevin, Greg and Ryan; nieces Diana and Miranda. Born and raised in Vancouver, Doug attended Capt. Cook and Killarney schools and involved with Scouts Canada for many years.  Lifelong friendships were made in his adventurous youth.  Doug started in the tugboat industry in 1973, achieving his Command Endorsement at age 28.  He was a senior tugboat captain, retiring in 2019.  Doug and Sharon moved to Sooke in 1993 and he made many friends in his community, especially through the Sooke Baptist Church and Sooke Lions Club. He also ran his own small business, VIC Scratching Posts.  Doug's legacy was that to know him was to love him.  We are blessed to have him in our lives and he will live in our hearts forever.  The family is grateful for all the support provided in the last few months and special gratitude for the Palliative Care team (8 South) at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Donations to BC Cancer or Victoria Hospital Foundation gratefully accepted.  Service on Saturday March 26 @ 1:00 pm at Sooke Baptist Church.
