Dr. Chaim David Mazoff

April 22, 1949 — August 9, 2020

Chaim David Mazoff left for his journey home on August 9, 2020. He was brother to the late Barton, the late Simeon and the late Sheldon. He leaves behind his niece, cousins and friend family whose lives he greatly enriched. C.D. was born on April 22, 1949, to Eva and Max Mazoff of Montreal, Quebec. As a child, he was known for successfully playing any instrument that was put in front of him. He also won contests for his accordion compositions. In High School, he trained hard in gymnastics, swimming, the guitar, and, according to him, swatting away the girls. Some of his life's highlights include, but are not limited to: living on a boat in California, moving to Europe with a guitar and coming back to Canada with a lute, completing several post-secondary degrees, his PhD of which he was most proud. He was the author of countless critiques, articles and two books: "Waiting for the Sun" and "Anxious Allegiances". After being diagnosed with Hepatitis C, he moved from Montreal to Victoria for a less stressful life and mild winters. Here, he became heavily involved with HepCBC, you can read his story, in his own words here: http://hepcbc.ca/support/our-stories/c-d-s-story/ . He also became a webmaster, gigged with his friends and accordion at various venues, and took stunning photographs of birds. Even after he was diagnosed with fatal liver cancer, C.D. continued living his life to the fullest; playing music, taking pictures of birds, enjoying nature and spending time with friends. He will be missed and thought of warmly by his remaining family and friends, remembering that he requested that they enjoy their life once he had passed. Thanks to Alex Olson and Martina Peladeau, Cheryl Reitz, Rosemary Plummer, Dr. Andrew Jervis, Nick Blumberg and all of the other friends and hospital staff who helped him through this time.
