Edward Allan Smith

December 1, 1942 — February 21, 2021

Edward Allan Smith
As the sun broke through the clouds on the afternoon of February 21st, 2021 and after a lengthy battle with cancer, Ed made his final transition home. He was born December 1, 1942 in Flin Flon, MB and was one of 11 children born to Raymond Leon Smith and Janet Beatrice Johnston. Not long after Ed was born, the family moved to White Fox, Saskatchewan where he spent his life until he moved away for work at the age of 17.
Ed was father to Monique Gray Smith (Rhonda Peterson) and Teresa Dobmeier (Dean). Grandfather to Mike Gambling (Robyn), Sadie Smith-Peterson, Jaxson Smith-Peterson, Brianna Dobmeier and great-grandaughter, Lillian Gambling. He was a sibling to: Dwayne, Harold (Rita), Judy (Alvin) and Bill (Kathy) and had numerous nieces and nephews who fondly knew him as ‘Uncle Eddy.' Ed was predeceased by his parents and siblings: Gerald, Gail, Ellen, Don, Archie and Albert. As well as his lifelong friend, Lanny Balkan. Ed remained friends with the mother of his daughters, Shirley Smith (Buck Billy) and for over 50 years got into many shenanigans with his dear friend, Everett Seimen.
As a child, Ed was known for playing tricks, often on his teachers. This mischievousness followed him throughout his life and was one example of how he lived life on his own terms. Ed loved the simple things; fishing, being out on the land, a campfire, Chinese food, watching the birds out his window and flowers. He always said, "there's no such thing as an ugly flower." HIs love for sports meant the tv was almost always on a sports channel, especially if the Canucks or Blue Jays were playing. Ed lived in numerous places across Canada, but his last 3 years were spent living in Victoria, B.C with his daughter Teresa and her family. It was here Ed found a loving community at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, especially enjoying the Elders group, outings and lunches.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to your local Native Friendship Centre.
