Our precious brother passed into the Light at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on January 9, 2015 at the age of 73. Ed was born in Victoria at St. Josephs Hospital on September 20, 1941 to Louise and Weyburn Steele, the youngest of five children. He spent most of his childhood and youth living in a log house above Island View Beach and attended Keating Elementary and Mt. Newton High schools. He worked for CKDA and the Land Registry Office in Victoria and moved to Vancouver where he was employed athe YMCA and Canada Post. Eds passions were music and sports. As a young man he played basketball and tennis excelling in both. Classical music was his great love. He will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family members especially his brothers and sisters; Joan McLeod(Larry), John Steele, Herb Steele(Erma) and Carol Pickup(Jim). Ed was born into Victoria Truth Centre where he attended Childrens Church and the Young Peoples Group. In recent years he became a member of Unity Victoria and was given loving support by the Unity community. Ed was a member and strong supporter of the New Democratic Party and its values. He was also an active member of Vancouver Island PWA Society, Victoria Aids Resource and Community Services Society and AIDS Vancouver Island. The family wishes to thank these wonderful organizations for their support of Ed. We would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Ghesquiere for his consistent care and support for Ed-he was always there when we needed him. In lieu of flowers, please consider donation to your favourite charity. A Celebration of Life event will be held at a future date in Victoria.
