Elizabeth “Elsie” Steele Dalrymple (nee Young)
November 2, 1922 – November 6, 2021
“Laugh and the world laughs with you;
weep, and you weep alone.”
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
“Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone.
Kindness in another’s trouble,
Courage in our own.”
Adam Lindsay Gordon
Smiling and laughing, kind and courageous…that was Elsie.
From her early years growing up in a loving family in a Glasgow fire station, through
the hardships of WWII, emigration, and several moves across Canada with her family, right up to her final days in Victoria, she kept on smiling!
The world has lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She passed away peacefully at The Veterans Memorial Lodge at Broadmead in Victoria, B.C., where she was lovingly cared for by the staff there, with her family by her side.
Elsie is survived by Alex, her husband of 73 years, son Jim, daughter Anne, son-in-law Ned, grandchildren Kyla (Duncan), Jane (Luke), Brian (Sam), Emma, Adam, Aaron, and great grandchildren Phoenix and Jack.
She is predeceased by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law John.
There will be a private Celebration of Life for Elsie in the new year.
