It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Ann Waite, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother on Sunday, March 24
th
, 2019 in Victoria, BC. Elsie passed away peacefully after a valiant and courageous four year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones in her final days including her husband Miles, her children Sonya and Ian and their spouses Peter and Melissa, her grandchildren Desi (11), Anisha (10), Zadie (7) and Hailey (5), her sister Beatrice, and her nieces Clara, Karen and Shirley. Their presence brought her immense comfort and love.
Elsie was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on December 9, 1944. She had 4 siblings Arvid, Gerald, Victor and Beatrice. Her aspirations led her to graduate from the Robertson Secretarial School in 1964, which enabled her to to be an accomplished and highly regarded office administrator throughout her life including roles at the University of Saskatchewan, Simon Fraser University, BC Pork Producers Association, and United Agri Systems.
She moved to BC with her husband Miles in 1966, to whom she was married for 52 years. They raised their children Ian and Sonya while farming in Aldergrove and later moved to Abbotsford after they were grown. After she retired, in 2008 she and Miles moved to Vancouver Island, where they spent many happy years living in both Cowichan Bay and Victoria. She cherished both her life-long friends and her "new" friends from all the places she lived and she was actively involved in the PEO Sisterhood championing many causes for women.
Elsie loved the ocean, playing scrabble and almost any other board/card game, piping hot lattes, brisk walks, and collecting antique depression glass. She was an avid fan of curling, figure skating and baseball. She had 23 neices and nephews for whom she held the highest regard and affection. Most of all, she loved being a devoted grandmother and was full of pride and admiration for their accomplishments. She will be so deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation where she was so lovingly cared for.
