Fergus Avery Foulis, 76, of Sooke, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an impressive collection of catch phrases.
Born on September 2, 1949 in Vancouver, BC to Robert and Louise Foulis. Fergie entered the world with a head of blonde hair and piercing baby blue eyes. He grew up in Vancouver on the Spanish Banks and attended Lord Byng until the end of Grade 8. At the age of 13 the family moved to Saltspring Island, he fell in love with the island and the life it provided them. In 1974 he moved to Victoria and later settled in Sooke to be close to his kids and Grandkids. Fergie always talked about how much he loved his life and all the people in it. He was known for his humour, kindness, and uncanny ability to make friends everywhere he went.
Fergie had a love of travel and his happiest places were Las Vegas, Palm Springs with Tory, and Kelowna on the lake with his family.
Fergie excelled at many things but at the top of the list was his ability to tell the same story for the 47th time with unwavering enthusiasm. He had a knack for turning the most ordinary moment into a memorable one, whether by cracking a well-timed joke or creating a minor household disaster that somehow became family legend. He loved his family so fiercely and they were his greatest achievement, he would talk anyone’s ear off about their many adventures and accomplishments. Fergie also had a wonderful circle of friends, they met every Friday for 36 years and were able to meet one last time in November for a cheers.
Fergie is survived by his three kids who he adored Laura (Greg), Katharine (Dave), Matthew (Laurie) and his eight incredible grandchildren, Carter, Cammy, Ella, Addison, Olivia, Kaden, Blake and Cooper who will forever cherish his unwavering love, quick wit, and unparalleled card playing skills. Fergie is also survived by his sister Cheryl and predeceased by his parents, brother Bob, and sisters Allyson and Bernice.
His ashes will be spread in the Trincomali Channel where he spent some of his favourite days. At a later date the family will place a plaque on the family plot on Saltspring Island.
