Forbes Leslie died Christmas morning after a short illness. He was peaceful and didn't feel any pain. He never wanted to be infirm in old age and he got that. He came to Canada from Scotland as a young man and was in his life a lawyer, a mediator, an environmentalist, a traveller, a gardener, a tennis player and an outside-the-norm thinker. He is survived by his partner Nan Fairchild, his two children, Alison and Colin, their mother Leith, his grandchild Logan, brother Norman, and a wider community of friends. Forbes wanted a green or natural burial (interment in a manner that does not inhibit decomposition but allows the body to be naturally recycled). So his body will be recycled into nature in the Woodlands Green section of Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria. A Celebration for Life for Forbes will be held on Jan. 25, 2 p.m. at the Kiwanis Manor, 2075 Milton St., Bennett Room on lower level.
