Forrest Wolfgang Steward 1996–2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Forrest Wolfgang Steward, age 29, in Victoria, British Columbia, on July 13, 2026.

Forrest was born in Osnabruck Germany, and lived across Canada before settling in Victoria. Forrest leaves behind his loving mother, Valerie Dakin; his father, Robin Steward (Theresa Leonard); his brother, Hunter Steward; and his sister, Carling Steward. He will also be deeply missed by an extensive circle of family and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing him. All are shocked and heartbroken by this sudden and tragic loss.

An arborist by profession and a lover of all things horticultural, Forrest felt most at home among trees, plants, soil, and the quiet rhythms of the natural world. He lived simply and without much interest in material trappings, finding value instead in friendship, family, laughter, and the living world around him.

Forrest was also a determined and unfailingly loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Baltimore Ravens—a commitment that required no small amount of optimism, resilience, and good humour.

He was loved by many, and his absence will be felt by many more. Forrest has gone far too soon, leaving a gaping hole in this fragile world and in the hearts of everyone who loved him.

He will be remembered with sorrow, affection, laughter, and enduring love.

In lieu of flowers, the family please asks for donations to the EB Research Partnership in his memory. An organization working hard to further scientific advancements for the disease he shared his life with.
