BURUMA, Frank Arnold—March 20, 1957 - March 6, 2024

With much sadness and a heavy heart we announce Frank Arnold Buruma passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2024 at the age of 66 years.

Always a practical man, he faced his diagnosis of lung cancer with courage and realism, and enjoyed each day to the fullest.

A loving husband he leaves Aileen (Martinez) his wife of 35 years and daughter Tiana. He met Aileen in Edmonton and moved to Victoria in 1989. An only child, Frank was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. Frank was predeceased by his parents Sye Buruma and Riemke Van der Beek. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a double major in Commerce and Economics. He had a brief career with the bank but was lured into sales and took on an opportunity to purchase an office equipment company in Victoria, BC. He, his partners and staff built it up, and sold it in 2015.

He retired at 58 years old to spend time with family and travel. An adventurer at heart, he loved the outdoors and hiked to several locations (Kilimanjaro as one). His love of travel has taken him to many parts of the world, his favourites were Egypt and Thailand. A skilled boy scout, he had all medals except for music.

He worked hard and loved a party. Throughout his life he has affected many people and mentored a few. He was kind and generous, however there was no need to chat with him before his first cup of coffee! He was intelligent and knowledgeable–a walking encyclopedia, a storyteller. He lived his life to the fullest! He is dearly loved and is missed.

He leaves behind many friends here, from Red Deer, Edmonton, and relatives in The Netherlands.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the many health care providers at the BC Cancer Clinic, Victoria Hospice, VIHA Home Health Services, Dr. P. Nwosu, friends and others who have touched our lives.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to the BC Cancer Society.
